NEW JOINERS

OVERVIEW

Hackney Woodcraft runs as a parent-led group. This means that while a group has some named coordinators, you will find lots of parents running sessions, and everyone is invited to help plan and lead some sessions each term.

JOINING WOODCRAFT

We encourage you to become a full member of Woodcraft Folk, which costs £35.40 pa (or £12 low waged) and be DBS (formerly CRB) checked in order to become involved in running sessions. Confidential financial assistance is available for subs, camps and any additional session costs should you need it.

GROOP

When joining Woodcraft you will be registering your details on a system called Groop. We will invite you to login to Hackney's District Groop where you will be able to link your central Woodcraft account and also complete some important contact, health and consent details about your child. This is a secure system but is very important for our ability to run sessions as well as safeguard and insure young people for activities within Woodcraft.

You can view some Groop specific guidance here: Groop Information

SUBS

Hackney Woodcraft Folk currently receives no regular external funding. All of our costs have to be covered by donations, either from members (subs) or from fundraising activities.

We estimate the amount the district needs to raise to cover hall rents, group registration, insurance, group and district activities and upkeep of our camping equipment plus subsidising group nights, camps and outings for those on low incomes is £25 per young person per term and suggest this as a donation.

It is really important to emphasise that this is a donation, not a fee, and that those that struggle to afford this should not be prevented from being involved. We recognise that some people may not be able to make this donation and therefore suggest a reduced donation of £20 for siblings or those on limited income. Of course, you may choose to donate less than this (or more) if you wish.

No young person shall be excluded from any Hackney Woodcraft Folk activity due to financial hardship. If this is a concern for you please talk to your group coordinator or the District Treasurer.

We rely on these donations to operate and are asking members to commit to making regular donations if they can, as you might do with any other charity.

  • Payment by Standing Order, payable four monthly (in January / May / September) is preferred or you can set up a monthly SO for £6.25 (or whatever amount you can afford).

  • Or please make subs donation promptly at the beginning of each term by BACs payment.

For either of these the bank details are:
