To volunteer with Woodcraft Folk in England and Wales you need to join as an adult member. For most roles, working directly with young people, you will also need to obtain a DBS check.
Woodcraft Adult membership costs £43 a year (£12 for low waged/unemployed). However, if finance is a barrier to you joining, the District may be able to help with that. Please talk to your Group Coordinator.
To Join click here: JOIN WOODCRAFT
You can also use that link to renew or change details on your existing Adult membership.
You will be asked to provide two references - see here
DFs also need to join National Woodcraft. This costs £12 a year but again, the District can support you with this if money is an issue.
More info on DF Membership and to join here: DF MEMBERSHIP
All adults who volunteer regularly at group nights or attend any overnight camp or residential MUST have an in date DBS.
If you are just joining Woodcraft you will automatically be sent a link to apply for a DBS via Personal Checks.
If you do not receive that, or if you are already a member who needs to apply for, or update, your DBS you can find out how to do that here: APPLY FOR DBS
You will need the password, Woodcraft100yrs and three forms of ID, usually:
Passport
Driving Licence or Birth Certificate
Utility Bill or Bank Statement.
(i.e. at least one with a photo and one with a current address)
Once you've completed your online application you will need to contact one of the District DBS checkers who will need to meet with you to verify your documents. Each group has its own checkers:
Haggerston - Mia Frostner - mia@europaeuropa.co.uk
Haggerston - Lauren Davies - lauren@heka.london
Clapton - Fi McAllister - mcallister.fiona@gmail.com
Stoke Newington - Amy Bush - amybush@hotmail.com
Venturers - Tom Albu - Tom Albu@greyfinch.co.uk
Venturers - Lee Thompson - jlthom@gmail.com
If you have a DBS certificate processed by another organisation and have already subscribed to the Update Service Scheme you can use this disclosure with us. You’ll need to present your certificate, together with some photo ID, to one of the DBS checkers above who will verify your documents. We then send copies to National Office to get confirmation. More info HERE
If you do not have your original certificate, or are not on the update service, you will need to do a new application. This is often as easy.
All new volunteers supporting Woodcraft Folk activities on a regular basis will be asked to provide the details of two people who can supply a reference, commenting on their suitability for the role. At least one of these should not be a part of Woodcraft Folk. New volunteers should ask their referees to provide a reference via our online form.
If you have any questions about any of this, please talk to your group Co-ordinator
