Prioritising the welfare of children and young people.
Being familiar with and following Woodcraft Folk principles, policies and procedures, including our policies and procedures for child protection/safeguarding, whistleblowing and online safety
Challenging unacceptable behaviour, and reporting behaviour that appears abusive or is otherwise concerning
Sharing concerns promptly with their Local/Event Safeguarding Officer
Being familiar with local Safeguarding Partnership procedures
Ensure volunteers (adults/leaders) at Group Nights / Camps have appropriate Safeguarding Training and either deliver that or ensure that it is delivered.
Ensuring that all volunteers know where they can find the safeguarding policy, local safeguarding plan and child protection procedures
Keeping safeguarding on the agenda, creating space for discussion.
Acting as the first point of contact for volunteers concerned about the safety and welfare of a child and reporting to District Safeguarding Lead if required.
As well as the above
Coordinating safeguarding training at District level.
Keeping District Safeguarding Plan up to date and relevant. Ensuring it is communicated to Group / Camp Safeguarding Leads and volunteers
Supporting Group / Camp Safeguarding Leads to respond to concerns raised, recording these and escalating to National Safeguarding Team if required.
Contacting children’s social care in cases where a child is at risk of harm
Liaising with appropriate local agencies for support and advice and keep a list of local contacts
Supporting volunteers after they have shared their concerns about a child
